What is MiniRoos?

MiniRoos is an initiative developed by the Football Federation of Australia (FFA) for players aged 5-11 yrs played on smaller sized fields. Each year field sizes increase with age groups as well as the number of players in a team and duration of games. Games are designed to allow for the frequent interchange of players giving maximum game time and positional opportunities.

Here at UQFC, we have boys only, girls only as well as mixed teams at each age group.

2017 IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

UQFC is currently at full capacity in our Miniroos U7 -U11 teams. Unfortunately this means that there will be extremely limited opportunity for any new players to join the club in the 2017 season once sign-on officially opens in January.
It is strongly recommended that you DO NOT sign on and pay online unless you have been offered a place in a team by our MiniRoos Administrator.
Should you wish to be placed on the 2018 Waitlist please email our Miniroos Administrator directly at uqfcminiroos@gmail.com advising the player’s name, school and year of birth. Available places in age groups will be offered according to your spot on the waitlist. The 2018 waitlist opens on 1 September 2017.
Note – U6 spaces are available for new players as normal in January and until all spaces have been allocated.

When do we play and train?

MiniRoos fixtures are played on Saturdays and at UQFC we run an “in house” competition for U6, U7 and U8 with all games played at our junior grounds at Cubberla Creek Reserve, Kenmore.

U8-U11 MiniRoos Season starts: March 2017

U6-U7 MiniRoos Season starts:  Term 2,2017

U6: 8am kick offs – 4v4
U7: 9am kick offs – 4v4
U8: 10am kick offs – 7v7

U9 (7v7), U10 (9v9) and U11 (9v9) age groups participate in competitions administered through Football Brisbane (FB) with a home and away ground format in which kick off times vary. MiniRoos train once per week.

There are no set training times for MiniRoos due to number of teams at the club and varies from 3.45pm, 4.45pm & a 6.00pm start across 5 venues in the local area. Training times are confirmed after you have joined a team and the team formation evenings are complete. We can not guarantee first preference for training times for all teams. MiniRoos teams are generally scheduled in the afternoon with Junior Teams (U12-U16) training in the evening.

How are teams selected?

U6, U7 and U8 are not graded and to maximize enjoyment are encouraged to form teams with friends or classmates. The U9-U11 age groups consist of 3 participation groupings based on skill level organized by Football Brisbane. The groupings are called Geckos, Goannas and Komodo Dragons.

How do I join a team? If you are a returning player our MiniRoos Adminnistrator will contact your previous team manager in November of each year to see if that team wishes to stay together or add a couple of players if moving up an age group. If yes, than please register online and when you attend our sign on days let our staff know which team you are staying in.

If new to the club or wish to move teams, please see important message above.

Due to high demand each season we can not guarantee any positions until February at our team formation evenings.

What Kit do I need?

All players must wear football boots (plastic tags) and shin guards. The Club will provide team playing shirts which are returned at the end of the season. A training kit and playing shorts are provided upon registration at an additonal cost of $50 per player (not included in registration fees) and new players to the club must purchase training kit.

Who coaches MiniRoos?

MiniRoo teams have parent coaches with UQFC developing these coaches through grass roots coaching courses early in the year or financially supporting attendance at coaching courses run by Football Queensland (FQ)
