Brief history of the Dingoes:
The pack first assembled in 2007 and entered the then Brisbane Commercial League as the UQFC Dingoes, having to have a team name due to other UQ teams being in the same division. The name stuck and since this time we have never failed to make an appearance in a finals series, with the first Division 1 Premiership and Grand Final double coming in 2009. That year we also took out the best and fairest team in the League with the least amount of cards (we accepted this award but internally debated the accuracy of the data this award was based on).
Seeking a greater challenge, the squad moved into the Football Brisbane competition in 2010 and has been a force in the lower metro divisions ever since with two second place finishes and two runner up grand final appearances. For some reason, we always seem to be lumped into a division that has a few teams in it that should be playing a lot higher. If we weren’t also one of those teams, we would be bitter about it!
The squad has evolved over the years (only 3 original players from the 2007 squad remain), picking up new players from student and club trials. However, the squad is mostly now a home to many a former UQ topside or premier grade player that has found university or work commitments too much. Actually, let’s be honest – we do have skilled players that should be playing in higher divisions, but they are just lazy and seek easy goals to relive past glory. Then again, nothing tastes better than winner’s beer.
